vitamin d and cancer

Recently, many studies have shown a link between vitamin d and cancer.  As many of us have been concerned with the harmful rays of the sun, we may also be blocking out vitamin D, and essential vitamin needed by the body.  There is much confusion about the relationship between vitamin d and cancer, because too much exposure to sunlight can cause skin cancer, while the skin needs vitamin D from ultraviolet rays to reduce risk of cancer.
In recent research, vitamin d and cancer go hand in hand with each other.  Some scientists recommend spending about 10-15 minutes per day in the sun without sunscreen, to allow the body to produce the essential vitamin D.  Vitamin D is produced with the ultraviolet rays hit the skin, and vitamin D has been shown to protect against the over production of cells (especially beneficial when the cells are cancerous.)
Recent studies on animals suggest that vitamin d and cancer are related, as the use of vitamin D has aided in reducing breast, colon, and prostate cancers.  Be sure to remember that you should still wear sunscreen to protect yourself from skin cancer, but you might just want to spend a few minutes in the sun unprotected.
